This brief guide will go over how to set up a nursery for your baby. We will go over the basics and the essentials and a few extra tips.

Selecting A Crib

The first thing you will realize when selecting a crib is that there are so many to choose from!

There are,

* Bassinets, which you can move from place to place for the first few months of babies life

* Cradles, that you can rock your baby to sleep in

* Co-sleeper cribs, that attach to a parents bed, which can make feeding easier.

* Portable crib, that folds up and you can take anywhere

* Convertible crib, that will then, when the baby turns into a toddler, turn into a proper bed

* And of course, the standard crib, which most babies use most often.

When buying a crib, do so, so it suits your life style. You may find buying a few different types is helpful. You will also of course need to equip the crib with a comfortable mattress that supports the baby as well.

Essential Baby Furniture

Here are a list of items I consider essential in a babies nursery, apart from the crib. I really don't think anything on this list is really a luxury.

* Baby changing table

- A changing table is essential for your baby. Make sure it is sturdy and reliable and has a lot of compartments for all of babies things.

* A rocker

- I don't know what I would have done with out our rocker. My child would not sleep for a long time unless it was rocked to sleep and it was also a pleasure to do this

* A dresser

- Babies clothes need to go somewhere.

Decorating The Nursery

What most parents do, and what I did was choose a theme for the babies nursery. This made decorating it a lot easier as we had something to work with.

You could have a sports theme, animal theme, floral theme, space theme, anything is possible.

This is also where you think whether or not you want one certain character to be associated with your room. For example, Sesame Street, Blues Clues, The Wiggles, Winnie The Pooh, etc....

You can put just about anything you like in your babies room. Lamps, rugs, mobiles, stuffed toys, bedding.

Painting the walls is always a good touch. Make sure the colors are soothing and natural and not bright and harsh.

Above all else when choosing your furniture make sure everything has been looked over from top to bottom. Your babies safety will always come first so make sure the furniture (if bought used) does not contain anything that could hurt your child.
